Malaysia's Ambassador To Switzerland Is No More

He passed away in Berne, Switzerland on 3 February 2016.

57-year-old Mohd Zulkephli Mohd Noor, the Malaysian Ambassador to Switzerland, has passed away in Bern, Switzerland. He survived by his wife, Anna Amalina, and five children, The Star reported.

His cause of death, however, has not been made public yet

Wisma Putra said Mohd Zulkephli was a dedicated and committed officer towards all his assignments throughout his excellent career in the Foreign Ministry.

“All his service and contribution in the name of God, King and Country for the last 32 years will always be remembered. The ministry wishes to extend its condolences to the wife and family members of the late Mohd Zulkephli. May his soul be showered with blessings and be placed among the believers,” it said.

The Embassy of Malaysia in Bern, with the assistance of the Permanent Mission of Malaysia in Geneva, is in the process of bringing the body back to Malaysia.

Noor started his service as an Administrative and Diplomatic Officer in 1984. Before being appointed as Ambassador of Malaysia to Switzerland, he was the Ambassador of Malaysia to Turkmenistan.

Mohd Zulkephli who also served as Malaysia’s Ambassador to Libya from 2009 to 2011, was directly involved in an operation to evacuate Malaysians from Libya when a civil war broke out there.

In addition, he had worked in other Malaysian Missions and had served as Malaysian Consul-General in Los Angeles and Malaysian Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva.

PM Najib Razak has expressed sadness over Zulkephli's death


"Received sad news that Malaysia's Ambassador to Switzerland, Datuk Mohd Zulkephli Mohd Noor passed away this afternoon. Al Fatihah," Najib tweeted.
