Dr Noor Hisham Says We Will Continue To Have Lower Daily Cases If M'sians Comply To SOP
With just 10 new cases today and no reported COVID-19 deaths since 22 May, the country's latest numbers give a sigh of relief to the people who have been forced to comply with movement restriction orders since 18 March.
Malaysia today recorded 10 new COVID-19 cases
Today's tally of new numbers is the lowest since 12 March when just nine new cases were recorded.
While all 10 cases are local transmissions, five of them are non-Malaysians, according to Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, who shared the latest COVID-19 stats in his press briefing.
Since 22 May, there has been no reported death due to the coronavirus, with the death toll remaining at 115 out of the 7,629 cumulative total of cases since 24 January.
On another good note, 86 patients made recovery and were discharged today, 28 May.
There are eight cases being treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and four need ventilator support.
While urging people to be careful, Dr Noor Hisham said they can check COVID-19 hotspots around the country with the MySejahtera app
His appeal to people comes amidst relatively relaxed travel restriction guidelines under the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) since 4 May and scheduled to end on 9 June.
The Health D-G said that people can use the hotspot tracker app, which provides users with information on COVID-19 hotspots within 1km from them, or through searching.
He also advised people to bring their own pens when going out to reduce the risk of infection.
Meanwhile, Dr Noor Hisham added since the CMCO, 77.3% of the new cases recorded in the country involve non-Malaysians. It is believed that the majority of them are foreign workers.
Since 4 May when the CMCO began, the Ministry of Health (MOH) has recorded a total of 1,189 positive cases, he said. Out of which, 919 are non-Malaysians and 270 Malaysians.
According to Dr Noor Hisham, while new cases have gone down, the impact of the festive season, if any, will only be known next month
He said that the main concern for the Ministry of Health (MOH) now is the festive season.
"Now, next week and the following week, if we can monitor the cases daily and if we can sustain our achievement in terms of our daily (new) cases, that is, if we can continue to have a lower double digit or even a single digit, then on 9 June, we will make a decision (about the CMCO)," the Health D-G said while answering a question from a reporter about further social relaxations.
He, however, added that before such a decision can be taken, he hopes that the public can work hand-in-hand with MOH and make sure that they comply with the SOPs.
"So, social responsibility, social discipline, and social compliance are indeed very important to us to break the chain of COVID-19 transmission in this country," he further stated, adding that if Malaysians comply to the ministry's SOP, we will continue to have a lower double digit or even single digit cases.
