A five-year-old child escaped with minor injuries after a car reversed into her at a rather high speed, as caught on closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage

According to Harian Metro, the incident happened near Puncak Alam, Kuala Selangor on Tuesday, 5 September.

In the now-viral video making its rounds on social media, it can be seen that the little girl was playing on a walkway in front of a shop when a yellow car reversed into her at high speed.

Another child along with a few other adults can also be seen in the CCTV footage, but they were able to avoid the car.

They were seen rushing to the girl's aid and urgently signalled to the driver to move his vehicle forward.

The driver had reportedly forgotten to switch gears and stepped on the accelerator pedal too hard while the car was in reverse

Kuala Selangor deputy police chief Supt Mohd Ambia Nordin said in a statement yesterday, 6 September, that the driver had parked in a space in front of a pet food store, but was unaware that his gear was still in reverse. He accidentally stepped on the accelerator pedal, prompting the car to move at high speed into the girl, who was playing near the shop's entrance, and causing her to crash through the door of the shop.

"The girl sustained light injuries to her face and was immediately rushed to the hospital for treatment after the accident," he said.

The little girl has since been discharged from the Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) hospital in Puncak Alam, Al-Sultan Abdullah Hospital.

"The driver's statement has already been recorded," he added. Mohd Ambia said that the driver, in his 30s, was not charged, but is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
