A food delivery rider died after he hit a pothole and crashed onto the side of the road in Mutiara Damansara, Petaling Jaya on Monday, 4 January

New Straits Times reported that the 31-year-old rider lost control of his motorcycle when it hit a pothole on Jalan PJU 7/2 around 1.15pm while he was on his way to deliver food.

He died instantly at the scene.

A video showing the location of the accident shortly after it occurred went viral on social media

The video is believed to be taken by another food delivery rider who was passing by. He urged authorities to repair the roads in the area, which is in front of The Curve shopping mall.

The man behind the camera also said similar accidents have happened on the road before but had never resulted in death.

PJ district police chief ACP Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal said the victim, who hailed from Kampung Cempaka, was pronounced dead at the scene when attended by a medical assistant

"A post-mortem will be conducted at the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre after his COVID-19 test result is acquired," Nik Ezanee said, as quoted by Malaysiakini.

"The incident is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 (for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving)," he added.
