Parking In Melaka Is Free On Weekends And Public Holidays From 15 June Onwards
Yay.
Visiting the historic state of Melaka on weekends and public holidays will get a little bit cheaper come 15 June
That's because the state will cease to impose parking fees on weekends and public holidays, including at tourist areas such as the popular Jonker Walk.
The Star Online quoted Melaka Housing, Local Government and Environment Committee chairman Tey Kok Kiew as saying that parking fee collections at gazetted parking spots around the state would stop on 15 June, the first day of Hari Raya.
Prior to this, parking fees within the city centre were collected at between RM0.40 and RM0.60 per hour on weekends, which is similar to the weekday rate
Apart from the removal of parking fees, Tay added that parking hours will also be amended to 9am to 5pm from 8am to 6pm currently.
While some 14,115 parking bays under the Melaka Historical City Council (MBMB) become free this Friday, private parking areas will continue with fee collection
"This parking fee exclusion is not applicable to private parking areas or the 12 privatised companies commissioned by MBMB such as the Melaka Sentral transitional market in Bachang, Tabung Haji Complex, and Jalan Kota Museum,"Tay told the English daily.
Parking rates for these areas remain at RM0.40 for 30 minutes, RM0.60 for 60 minutes, and RM5 for full-day parking.
