Nga said the assessment was based on the Urban Happiness Level Index, which is integrated with the Malaysian Happiness Index to measure people's wellbeing at the national, state, and district levels

He added that the government's Malaysian Urban Indicators Network (MURNInets) system further supported the evaluation by incorporating residents' actual experiences, particularly regarding environmental quality and urban services.

Nga also noted that Malaysia's happiness level surpassed the global average, citing the 2026 Ipsos Happiness Report released on 19 March, which showed the country recording an 81% happiness rate compared to the global average of 76%

He attributed the positive results to government policies aimed at improving quality of life.

"This means that the MADANI government's policies to improve people's wellbeing are beginning to bear fruit," he said, adding that efforts would continue to strengthen protections for Malaysians amid global uncertainties.

Nga also shared four simple principles for leading a happier life, including practising daily gratitude, being content with what one has, and appreciating life's small moments.

"We must also remain positive, stay away from negative elements, and practice a healthy lifestyle through balanced nutrition, physical activity, and adequate rest," he said.
