Here's What Happened During The Road Rage Incident On NSE In Which A Man Was Killed
Police have arrested a suspect and his wife to assist in the investigation.
In an incident that occurred yesterday, 10 August, a 29-year-old man was killed during a road-rage involving a 40-year-old man on the North-South Expressway (NSE) near Bandar Baru Bangi, Kajang
According to a report in The Star Online, it was a minor fender bender that turned into a car chase and ultimately led to a fatal road rage incident.
The 29-year-old victim had initially rear-ended the car driven by the 40-year-old suspect just after the Sungai Besi toll plaza at around 1.40pm Saturday, Selangor CID chief Senior Assistant Commissioner Fadzil Ahmat was reported saying by the English daily.
"Following the incident, the suspect and victim were involved in a car chase until they reached the Bandar Baru Bangi exit. A scuffle ensued between the two and witnesses at the scene attempted to calm them down and both parties went back to their vehicles."
Following the incident, many on social media shared videos of the incident, with some focusing on the race of the two drivers involved
A tweet posted by an individual claiming to be the victim's relative urged people to RT a 15-second-long video that showed the suspect holding the victim's motionless body.
"Based on what the doctor said my brother was beaten really bad in the ribs and head area, please guys help me find justice for my brother-in-law," read the tweet.
The person's tweet viral, with several people focusing on the race of the two men.
However, according to a report in Malay Mail, police have dismissed rumours of the racial element being a factor in the altercation between the two men.
"The motive of the incident stemmed from the road accident and has nothing to do with the racial issue being spread online," an investigator was quoted as saying.
So what happened during the incident?
According to a preliminary investigation report by the Selangor Criminal Investigation Department, the 29-year-old who attacked the 40-year-old driver with a baseball bat during a road rage incident was killed after the latter drove into him while trying to flee.
Both The Star Online and Malay Mail quoted the Selangor CID saying that after witnesses at the scene de-escalated the situation, the victim, who was still unhappy, got out of his car with a baseball bat and smashed the front of the suspect's car.
"The suspect then drove his car forward hurriedly and hit the victim. The victim was pinned between the suspect's car and the road divider," CID SAC Fadzil added.
While the 29-year-old was rushed to the Nilai Medical Centre for treatment, he died while receiving treatment, some two hours after the incident.
Police have since arrested the 40-year-old driver and his 36-year-old wife, who was also at the scene during the time of the incident
The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
Both the husband and the wife have been remanded for seven days until 17 August.
