People Are Actually Changing Their Names To "iPhone 7". Seriously
True Apple fanboys.
Apple fanboys are known to be a bit extreme, but these guys from Ukraine totally jumped into the deep end by changing their names to... 'iPhone 7'
This is what we call brand loyalty.
People promptly changed their names after an electronic store announced it will award the first five people who do so with free iPhone 7s
The first Apple enthusiast to claim a free phone was a 20-year-old man formerly known as Olexander Turin, who paid around USD2 (RM8) to legally change his name to iPhone Sim (‘sim’ means ‘seven’ in Ukrainian)
The price of Apple's latest smartphone starts at USD850 (RM3,561) in Ukraine.
After receiving the coveted smartphone last Friday, 28 October, the 20-year-old said he said he might change it back to his original name when he has children
Initially shocked at the idea, Sim's friends and family have started supporting him.
"It was difficult to accept that and hard to believe it's true. Each person in this world is looking for a way to express himself. Why not do that in this way?" her sister Tetyana Panina said as quoted by AP.
Sim wasn’t the only one to take advantage of the offer. An Ukrainian news outlet reported that at least two more individuals have legally changed their name to claim a free smartphone.
Ukrainian law does not restrict the number of times you can legally change your name, which means the winners will get a chance to reclaim their real names, if desired.
Come to think of it, it's not such a bad idea after all. These fanboys only had to pay USD2 for the name change as compared to the hefty price tag of the iPhone 7.
But imagine if Sim decided not to change his name, his children would be walking around with such an outdated last name. That would just be embarrassing.
