"The bad guys stole my kitty bank, they stole my iPod," says Abby, one lucky and capable four-year-old from Ferndale, Washington. That was part of "the worst day in my life," the day she witnessed a home invasion that occurred while she was under the care of a 17-year-old babysitter.

But there's a twist to the scary story: The robbery was faked, and Abby was the one who helped expose the scam. Investigators say Abby's babysitter and her 16-year-old boyfriend staged a fake home invasion with another male suspect, then made up a story about two armed black men breaking into the home.

"They told us to get out of the house 'cause they wanted to steal stuff," Abby recalled. "I think that was really her being bad. She's not a good babysitter."

It gets worse. The babysitter told the cops Abby's neighbour did it and the cops followed the lead.

The babysitter claimed one of the suspects resembled the next-door neighbour, Cody Oaks, who was subsequently handcuffed and questioned for several hours.

That's when Abby took a stand. She told cops Cody couldn't have done it because "it wasn't the right skin colour."

While the 17-year-old babysitter said that the thieves were two armed black males — one of whom suspiciously looked like the next door neighbor — her story fell apart when Abby “described the suspects as having peach-colored skin as opposed to having dark colored skin,” Sheriff Bill Elfo told ABC News.

As for all the stolen stuff? Abby said "they got it back because of me being a superhero." WATCH:
