"We are planning to launch the e-commerce service in Singapore in the next two weeks, and introduce it in Malaysia next year," he said.
The announcement was made by Rojkjaear at the groundbreaking ceremony for IKEA Penang store, which is slated to open in 2019
IKEA Penang would be the fourth IKEA store in Malaysia, following Damansara and Cheras in Selangor, and Tebrau in Johor Bahru.
A total of RM600 million has been invested to set up the store.
Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said the new store will attract more spenders and create job opportunities and spin-off business for suppliers.
IKEA stores in Malaysia are among its most visited globally, with the Damansara outlet receiving about six million visitors annually
"IKEA Damansara receives about six million visitors annually. We really hope that IKEA Penang would be able to attract as many visitors once it opens. The store will create about 450 jobs and various spin-off business opportunities for suppliers," Rojkjaer said as quoted by Bernama.
Rojkjaer told The Malaysian Insight that IKEA currently has no plans to open more outlets after Penang.
