The Lion Air plane was carrying 110 passengers when it collided with one of three cows wandering on the runway.

OH WOW! Passenger jet skids off runway after hitting a cow

An Indonesian passenger jet crashed into a cow and skidded off the runway as it came into land at an airport in the centre of the archipelago.

The cow was killed under one of the jet's wheel

The Boeing 737-900 skidded off the runway after it came into contact with one of three cows wandering around the airport. The pilot told local media he could smell "burning meat" following the incident.

Two passengers were slightly injured as they evacuated from the plane. They were able to leave hospital after treatment, according to Lion Air’s spokesman Leithen Francis.

The pilot said he thought the animals were dogs in front of him, "but it turned out there were three cows wandering in the middle of the runway".

The airline could not say how the cows managed to get on the runway, which is a four hour flight from the country’s capital Jakarta.
