"Stronger Than Before" ISIS Issues A Paris-Style Attack On Washington And Other Countries
"We are coming, coming with booby traps and explosives.."
On Monday, 16 November, an Islamic State sub-group released a new video praising the Paris attacks and warning that a similar attack could take place in Washington and promised attacks on any other country participating in the ongoing airstrikes against Syria
According to Reuters, the 11-minute-long video, purportedly made by Wilayat Kirkuk, a group based in Salahuddin province, north of Baghdad, was uploaded on a site used by Islamic State to post its messages and has not yet been officially authenticated
While the video does closely resemble others released by the Islamic State, it lacked the theatrics and high-quality editing that other videos have had. The 11-minute video begins with a selection of news clips showing the aftermath of the attacks, with French President François Hollande condemning them.
Later in the video, a man identified as "Al Karar the Iraqi" speaks to the camera, threatening the "crusader" nations in the coalition against the Islamic State. The U.S. capital is specifically singled out.
"We say to the states that take part in the crusader campaign that, by God, you will have a day, God willing, like France's and by God, as we struck France in the center of its abode in Paris, then we swear that we will strike America at its center in Washington," the man said.
reuters.comAnother man identified by Reuters as "Al Ghareeb the Algerian", also warned Europe in the video that more attacks were coming
"I say to the European countries that we are coming, coming with booby traps and explosives, coming with explosive belts and (gun) silencers and you will be unable to stop us because today we are much stronger than before," he said.
reuters.comThe release of the video comes as police in Malaysia have intensified their crackdown and caught three of the Islamic State members
Among them was a 40-year-old former Felda Global Ventures Holdings Bhd (FGVH) senior officer, who was arrested upon arrival at the KL International Airport (KLIA).
The two others were a Malaysian and an Indonesian who were held in Tangkak, Johor. The duo, both aged 22, had worked in a canteen at the Health Ministry’s pharmaceutical division in Petaling Jaya.
Police also nabbed two members of the now defunct Imam Mahdi movement in Kota Damansara and Puchong, with one having links to the Jemaah Islamiyah terror group.
According to IGP Khalid Abu Bakar, the three ISIS militants were detained in a four-day sting operation conducted by the Bukit Aman Special Branch Counter-Terrorism Division which ended on Friday, just before the terror attacks in Paris, The Star Online reported
Khalid said the ex-FGVH officer had left the company under a voluntary separation scheme in August.
“He went to Turkey on Oct 21 to gain safe passage into Syria. His travels were arranged by a Somalian national whom he got to know on Twitter.
“However, he was arrested by Turkish authorities on Oct 25 with nine other foreigners from Russia, Xinjiang in China and Morocco and deported back to Malaysia,” he said in a statement.
The IGP said the two canteen workers had also planned to head to Syria to join IS.
