It's Official! Subang Jaya Is Becoming A City After 22 Years
It will become the third city in Selangor.

After 22 years, Subang Jaya will finally be accredited as a city
A report by The Star quoted Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) president Noraini Rosland as saying, "MPSJ received the consent of the Sultan of Selangor [Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah] that the date of declaration for Subang Jaya City Council will be on 20 October 2020."
Subang Jaya's city status was first announced by Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari last December. According to Selangor Journal, the move by the state government came after the Ministry of Housing and Local Government's approval.
Subang Jaya will become the third city in Selangor after Shah Alam and Petaling Jaya
Petaling Jaya City Council achieved its status in 2006, while Shah Alam City Council followed suit four years later.
According to EdgeProp, Subang Jaya was originally part of Petaling Jaya District Council and was eventually upgraded to become its own municipal council in 1997.
Becoming a city may mean improved standards of living for residents in Subang Jaya
According to theSundaily, councillor Chang Kim Loong mentioned last year that the city status would give the council greater authority when it comes to council matters, especially roadworks that would otherwise be under the responsibility of the Public Works Department.
Additionally, the status may mean that property prices in the area would see an increase.
As the number of Subang Jaya residents is projected to reach 500,000 in the next 14 years, Noraini hopes the upgraded status would enable them to better plan to accommodate more residents, as noted by theSundaily.
