The Public Works Department (JKR) has responded to the viral video of a man expressing his disappointment at the authorities for not properly repairing a pothole in Klang

The video, originally published on TikTok, was shared by Facebook aggregator page Lando Zawawi Vrus, highlighting the severity of the issue.

"How many times does JKR want to patch this pothole? How many times do they want to work in vain and put taxpayers in danger?" reads the caption of the video.

The 33-second video shows a man picking up loose gravel from a big pothole in the middle of a busy road. The man can be heard expressing his disappointment at the local authorities, claiming that the pothole was recently patched by JKR but the work was poorly done.

JKR said it is taking the issue highlighted by the viral video seriously, and has ordered the developer in charge of the pothole to repair it

In a statement on Monday, 24 June, the department said their investigations found that the pothole mentioned in the video is located on Jalan Hj Abdul Manan, which is currently under the maintenance jurisdiction of project developer, East Coast Rail Link (ECRL).

"The damage to the patch, which went viral, was caused by a cold mix patch done by the developer and water accumulating on the road.

"For the safety and comfort of road users, JKR, through the Klang district department, has instructed ECRL to repair the pothole using a hot mix method immediately," it said.

JKR added that it remains committed to road user safety, and has advised the public to verify information before posting on social media.
