In a recent exclusive interview with Media Prima, Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) shared that Indonesia and Malaysia are saudara serumpun (brotherly nations)

This sentiment came about as Jokowi paid tribute to Malaysia and Indonesia's diplomatic ties. In fact, Jokowi said that the historical bond between the two ASEAN countries is unquestionably strong, as reported by New Straits Times.

"Relationships such as this cannot be forgotten. We are a family that shares strong historical bonds. Right now, our relationship, in particular economic, trade, and investments, continues to soar. This is something we have to continue to strengthen.

"Even if trade or investments drop, we cannot neglect this (relationship) and (must) continue to work on it," he said.

Jokowi's discussion on the importance of upholding bilateral ties is part of a 30-minute-long interview, which will be aired as a special talk programme tomorrow, 9 May, at 9pm on TV3 and tonton

Titled Eksklusif Bersama Joko Widodo, Presiden Republik Indonesia, the exclusive programme will showcase the Indonesian president sharing his perspective on various issues with host Fiza Sabjahan.

As the interview was filmed ahead of the ASEAN Summit happening in Jakarta this month, the discussion will also include topics of ASEAN's interests, such as maritime issues, border disputes, and the political unrest in Myanmar, as well as economic recovery and food security to ensure political, security, and economic stability.

Besides that, the programme will also give you a glimpse into Indonesia's Istana Merdeka and local markets

Istana Merdeka is one of the six presidential palaces in Jakarta, and is used as the first location of the interview.

Additionally, Jokowi chose Tanah Abang Market, a tourist location known for textile products, and Sarinah Mall, Indonesia's first shopping centre upgraded to offer local goods, as the locations for the second shoot.

Jokowi is Indonesia's seventh president and the chairman of ASEAN 2023

Born and raised in a riverside slum in Surakarta, Jokowi has come a long way in his political career.

He is the first president not to have emerged from the country's political or military elite, having risen to prominence through his tenures as mayor of Solo and then governor of Jakarta.

Get to know Jokowi on the special talk programme on TV3 and tonton tomorrow night, 9 May, at 9pm
