RIP Kevin Tan. Brave Malaysian Adventure Guide Dies Saving A Singaporean From Drowning.

"It takes a strong man to save himself, but a great man to save another." A brave Malaysian tour guide passed away in a drowning tragedy while trying to save a Singaporean man in distress at a waterfall area in Bentong.

A Malaysian tour guide died in an attempt to save another tourist in Pahang.

A picnic at the Lata Hammer Recreation Centre, Batu Tujuh near here, turned into a tragedy for 10 Singaporean tourists when their tourist guide - Kevin Tan, who had earlier helped to save one of them from drowning, was found dead.

According to Bentong police chief Supt Mohamad Mansor Mohd Nor, this is what happened:

Before the driver, Kevin Tan Chew, from Petaling Jaya, was found drowned, he had jumped into the river to save one of the tourists who got into difficulties while playing in the water.

After Tan brought the tourist to the bank, he was said to have fallen into the river and swept by the current, he added.

While Tan's body was found after a search operation lasting about two hours, the 35-year-old Singaporean was eventually rescued. He was part of a group of ten Singaporean tourists under Tan.

While the cause of Kevin's passing was his heroic deed to save another, he was an energetic person

Kevin was no ordinary man, he was a multi-talented person, who was an adventurer at heart and a youth leader of his church.

Kevin was a part of an extraordinary student ministry in Malaysia, where young people from 15-30-- or maybe even a wider range than that!-- were like a group of brothers and sisters, who cared for one another and helped each other grow.
