Visual effects technicians in the wake of the closure of a high-profile visual effects company that worked on the Oscar-winning hit Life of Pi.

When the visual effects team behind Life of Pi attempted to draw attention to Rhythm and Hues' plight during their speech for the best visual effects Oscar, they were cut off.

Over 400 current & ex-employees of visual effects company Rhythm & Hues, which filed for Bankruptcy and fired over 250 employees last week. Many of them gathered and staged a large protest.
The protest took place at the corner of Hollywood & Vine last night, only a few blocks away from the red carpet pre-shows near the Dolby Theatre.
Two weeks ago, Rhythm and Hues filed for bankruptcy protection. More than 200 employees were laid off, many of whom worked for more than a year on “Life of Pi.”

VFX studios often have their staff put in TONS of overtime. These horrendous hours can last 3-6 months, 7 days a week. On top of this, several VFX companies are not paying for that overtime

VFX studios make 5% profit on a GOOD year, but most of the time breaking even or even losing money on a job. This in turn has a very negative effect on vfx workers working at those companies.
