A Facebook post detailing a good deed of a Road Transport Department (JPJ) officer from Batu Uban, Penang, has gone viral. Posted on 17 February by Lim Thung Him, the post has over 2,300 Likes and more than 900 shares at the time of writing.

The JPJ officer, known only as Suhaidah, went out of her way to help a woman, known only as Chuang who had difficulty in walking

The woman had gone to the JPJ office with a friend to transfer the title of a car. After being told about Chuang's condition, Suhaidah asked the friend to drive Chuang to the lobby area. She then left her counter and walked out to the lobby area to serve the woman who was still seated in the car.

And Suhaidah did this with a smile and in a friendly and patient manner (squatting to take thumbprints from Mrs Chuang, even when it took her many tries).

Not just that, Lim Thung Him, who posted the incident on Facebook, also wrote that the JPJ officers also told her that those who had mobility difficulties could contact the department so that the necessary arrangements could be made for them.

Our writer Samantha provided us with a translation of the post:

"This morning, I took my friend Mrs. Chuang (who can’t move around easily) to Road Transport Department in Batu Uban, Penang to change car ownership. With the help of Mr. Wooi Chiam Chiam (Plus Trading & Agency representative) and officials at JPJ counters, our case was referred to the Officer. Ms. Suhaidah (uncertain rank) who took over our case. She gave us permission to drive our car to the front lobby. Barely 5 minutes later, Ms. Suhaidah came over to serve Mrs Chuang in a friendly and patient manner (squatting to take thumbprints from Mrs Chuang, even when it took her many tries). The whole process took no more than 20 minutes.

With Ms. Suhaidah’s consent, I took some photos to post on Facebook. Good service should be praised and practiced in all government departments.

Before we left, the official at the counter gave us 2 telephone number 046 564 131/046 564 151 RTD so anyone with disabilities have matters to pertaining the JPJ can request for officials from the Mobile department to stop by their residence to get it sorted out.

Again, kudos to the Road Transport Department (JPJ) Branch Batu Uban, Penang."

Well done, Suhaidah!
