Malaysia Declares 18 And 19 November Nationwide Public Holidays For #GE15
The two-day special public holiday is to make it easier for voters.
Caretaker Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob has announced 18 and 19 November to be public holidays nationwide
He said the two-day special holiday is to encourage people to carry out their civic responsibility and vote on polling day on Saturday, 19 November, reported New Straits Times today, 14 November.
This comes after Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari urged the caretaker Prime Minister to declare a nationwide public holiday for all Malaysians to make it easier for them to cast their ballots.
Prior to this, three state governments had already declared public holidays in their states, namely Selangor, Penang, and Negeri Sembilan.
21,173,638 eligible voters are expected to cast their ballots at 9,536 polling stations around the country in this 15th General Election (GE15)
They will vote for elected representatives in 222 parliamentary constituencies and 116 state seats in Perlis, Perak, and Pahang, with a single seat for the Bugaya by-election state seat in Sabah.
