Many Malaysians working in Singapore have been separated from their loved ones since the pandemic began

Travel restrictions between both countries due to the Movement Control Order (MCO) means that a father working in Singapore has not seen his wife and children in over six months - or over 200 days - as he has so longingly counted.

In an attempt to catch a glimpse of his family, he planned a meeting to see them from across the Straits of Johor on Monday, 5 October

The father in Singapore, Mohd Izwan Sarip, uploaded two videos of the bittersweet reunion on Facebook.

He went to a jetty in Woodlands and called his family who were at the opposite bank in Johor Bahru.

In the videos, he is on the phone with his family while he stands as close to the edge as possible and waves his left hand.

"Where are you?" he asks, to which his wife replies, "I'm here, wearing a black and white shirt! Can you see me?"

Laughter can be heard from the phone as his wife asks his children to say, "Hi, papa!"

From the other side, his family also uploaded their point of view of their meeting from Johor

"Be patient, brother. I'll go to Decathlon to buy binoculars and we can try again," wrote Muhamad Faiz FS in a subsequent Facebook post.

The relative shared videos and photos of Izwan's children trying to spot their father and also waving across the water.
