A Malaysian has been body-shamed online after sharing a family photo on Threads
Speaking to Harian Metro, Muhammad Hafis Mohamed Hussien, 27, said netizens accused him of being a foreigner simply because of his dark complexion.
The insults were posted in the comments section of his recent Threads post, which featured a photo of him, his wife, Nurfatin Adila Bukhari, 29, and their 2-month-old baby, Muhammad Fayyadh, dressed in Hari Raya outfits.
He said it was his first time sharing a family photo on Threads, and did not expect the overwhelming response, which included comments mocking his appearance and questioning his citizenship.
"I'm not active on Threads; I just shared a photo with my wife and child because it was our first time celebrating Raya together.
"I posted it for the memories, but I was surprised to receive a lot of comments, many of which were positive.
"However, many also insulted my appearance, going as far as saying I'm not a citizen of this country, even though I was born and raised here," said the Senawang resident.

Muhammad Hafis now worries his child could become a target of similar insults in the future
"Honestly, I've been teased for my dark skin since my school days, with some even calling me 'black'.
"It happens at work too, and honestly, I'm used to it. Previously, a photo of my wife and me also went viral on social media.
"At the time, my wife felt quite down because people were insulting me, but I told her not to pay attention to them," he said.
While he is hurt by the remarks, the 27-year-old said he can accept them as long as they are not directed at his family.
He now views the insults as a test and remains grateful for the appearance Allah SWT has given him.
"All I can say is, thank you to those who prayed for our family and left words of encouragement, even if they don't know us.
"As for those who left negative comments, I have nothing to say. I just pray for the best for everyone," Muhammad Hafis said.
