If you're planning a trip to Nepal, it might be best to postpone it

Mohd Firdaus Azman, the chargé d'affaires at the Malaysian Embassy in Kathmandu, told Bernama that continuous rainfall since 26 September has caused widespread floods and landslides.

He added that Nepal's Department of Hydrology and Meteorology predicts more rain from 1 October to 5 October.

According to Reuters, schools have been shut for three days and at least 192 people have died, with 32 people still missing, so far.

Search and rescue teams have continued to dig for people buried beneath mud and rubble

"For those planning to visit Nepal, we advise them to postpone their trips as all routes out of Kathmandu are cut off.

"If they arrive in Kathmandu, they will be stranded. In addition, the water level is still high and bridges connecting Kathmandu are completely destroyed.

"Accordingly, everyone is advised to postpone travelling to Nepal for the time being until the authorities declare it is safe and the roads and highways are repaired," he told Bernama.

Malaysians in Nepal are urged to exercise caution and reach out to the embassy in case of emergencies

Firdaus mentioned that 25 Malaysians affected by the floods and landslides, most of whom were returning from Pokhara, have safely reached Kathmandu with the help of local agents and the embassy on 29 September.

There are also groups who have just started their climbs, but so far, the embassy hasn't received any emergency reports, he added.

"The embassy will continue to monitor the latest developments in Kathmandu and update the current developments on social media," he added.

For assistance, Malaysians can contact the embassy at +977-9801 00 8000.
