Shoppers had a heart-stopping moment yesterday, 16 January, when they discovered a young girl alone in a locked car at a hypermarket in Cheras

The car was reportedly parked near the entrance of the hypermarket.

According to a Facebook community page, the child was
"helplessly crying and sweating" when shoppers noticed she was left alone in the car "under the hot sun", with the doors locked and windows shut

Fearing that the child could have suffocated or gotten heatstroke, FB community page Kia.my noted that passersby quickly notified a security guard of the situation. The hypermarket's management then made public announcements to locate the car owner.

It was alleged that the girl was locked in the car for about 30 minutes before a man - believed to be her father - appeared to get to his car. When he realised that he was being confronted, he "hurriedly got into his car and drove off".

The post has been shared widely since it was posted yesterday, with some netizens suggesting that those at the scene should have broken the window to save the girl

It should be noted, however, that breaking the window poses a risk of injuring the child.

Although the child seemed to be mostly unharmed from the ordeal, some noted that a police report should be filed against the father for neglecting and endangering his daughter
