Always take your gun out of your pocket before you take off your pants. Otherwise you might end up like William Rood, who shot himself in the chin as he attempted to disrobe Sunday evening.
Deputy David Caldwell, of the Carter County, Tennessee Sheriff's Department, was called to Rood's home late Sunday, where he found a bloody scene, according to the Johnson City Press.
The sheriff said Mr Rood was carrying a .25 calibre Barretta pistol in the front pocket of his pants
The weapon fired when the 69-year-old took his pants off and placed them on his dresser. The pistol went off and the bullet hit him in the chin.

The bullet was still in Rood’s neck when he was found, according to the Johnson City Press.
He was rushed to a local hospital, where he was airlifted to the better equipped Johnson City Medical Center
Captain Jeff Markland of the Sheriff’s Office said Rood told authorities he had other things in his pocket that may have caused the gun to go off.

“You just need to be familiar with that weapon and make sure a thing like this can’t happen. If you carry one in your pocket, make sure it’s on safety and make sure that it can’t be discharged,” Captain Jeff Markland told WCYB.
