Deputy David Caldwell, of the Carter County, Tennessee Sheriff's Department, was called to Rood's home late Sunday, where he found a bloody scene, according to the Johnson City Press.

The weapon fired when the 69-year-old took his pants off and placed them on his dresser. The pistol went off and the bullet hit him in the chin.

Captain Jeff Markland of the Sheriff’s Office said Rood told authorities he had other things in his pocket that may have caused the gun to go off.
