Man Who Threw Kenduri During MCO Faces RM50,000 Fine And 1 Year In Jail

A Malaysian man recently mocked the implementation of the Movement Control Order (MCO) by throwing a kenduri kepala kambing (goat head feast) in Langgar, Kedah
According to Free Malaysia Today, Mohd Naim Md Isa had filmed the gathering and repeatedly made light of the COVID-19 outbreak in a 57-second video clip.
The 49-year-old pleaded guilty to the offence yesterday, 25 March, under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act, which carries a maximum fine of RM50,000 or jail up to one year, or both, upon conviction.
Naim is accused of producing the offensive content with the intention of hurting others, as he was heard saying "Kuarantin kepala bapak", or "Quarantine, your father's head", in the video
Malaysiakini reported that the clip also showed a group of people helping themselves to food, including the head of a goat in the house compound as the accused continually mocked the MCO.
The carpenter committed the offence by spreading the video on WhatsApp around 2pm last Friday, 20 March, two days after the MCO came into force.
The video was viewed by the Kota Setar district police headquarters criminal investigations office.
Sessions Court Judge Juraidah Abas, however, had adjourned sentencing pending a forensic report and full facts of the case
The judge has fixed 11 May as the date of sentencing for the accused, reported New Straits Times.
The court has also offered Naim bail of RM6,000 with one surety.
