Defence Minister Mohamad Sabu took to the skies in a fighter jet for the very first time yesterday, 7 July, during an official visit to Gong Kedak air base in Kelantan

"Flying with pilot Lt Col Jasmi in RMAF fighter aircraft Sukhoi Su30-MKM pilot (M52-14). A new experience today," wrote the minister on his official Facebook page.

Mat Sabu was accompanied by Armed Forces chief General Tan Sri Zulkifli Zainal Abidin, RMAF deputy chief Lieutenant General Datuk Seri Ackbal Abdul Samad, and air base commander Brigadier General Datuk Suhaimi Hussain, according to New Straits Times.

Here are some photos from the Defence Minister's Air Force adventure:

Mat Sabu was first given a medical check-up by Captain (Dr) Adif Faidz to ensure that he was fit to fly

In the changing room, pilots and technical assistants helped the Defence Minister into his flying suit

Mat Sabu then hit the tarmac to prepare for his flight.

But first... photoshoot!

The minister looked calm settling into the jet, which had his nickname 'Abg Mat' painted on its side

And then it was lift off! Mat Sabu's fighter jet was followed by a Su-30MKM plane

We imagine the flight looked a little like this...
