Mat Sabu's Son To Spend 8 Months Behind Bars For Taking Marijuana
The 32-year-old son of Amanah president was convicted under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
Earlier today, 24 June, Ahmad Saiful Islam Mohamad was sentenced to eight months in prison for using drugs at a hotel in January last year
The 32-year-old son of Amanah president Mohamad Sabu was convicted under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a maximum two-year jail sentence and RM5,000 fine.
Ahmad Saiful was found guilty by a Magistrate's Court in Kuala Lumpur.
Magistrate Mohamad Aizat Abdul Rahim also ordered that the son of the former defence minister will be put under the surveillance of the National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) for two years after his jail term.
The magistrate ruled that the accused will start his jail term today
According to magistrate Aizat, the prosecution was able to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt and that Ahmad Saiful's testimony was a bare denial and the testimonies of the defence witnesses were an afterthought, reported New Straits Times.
While acknowledging the hardship his family would suffer due to him being jailed, the magistrate said that the court considers public interest to be higher and must give a deterrent sentence as an example.
