In a bid to control the rodent population in Petaling Jaya, MBPJ has recently started a rat-catching campaign

The Star Online reported that people can collect their reward of RM3 for every rat caught in the city, regardless if the rodent is dead or alive.

The campaign started on 1 December and will come to an end tomorrow, 7 December.

The reward can be claimed from officers stationed at the SS2 basketball court in Jalan SS2/61 from 9am to 11am daily.

There's a catch if you want to participate

You must be a resident of Petaling Jaya and your rodent must be caught from within the city in order to receive your reward.

But wait... how can MBPJ officers tell where the rats came from?

Anyway, MBPJ reportedly received 55 complaints relating to rats and 1,587 rats have been caught in the city this year

Petaling Jaya mayor Datuk Mohd Azizi Mohd Zain said the council is also currently working hard to reduce the rat population using methods like traps and poison, but their efforts would be in vain if public and commercial areas were dirty.

"If cleanliness is not prioritised, the rat population will keep growing. Shop owners should engage pest control companies to ensure their premises are rodent-free," he said.
