The Ministry of Home Affairs (MOHA) has banned the book, Rebirth: Reform, Resistance, And Hope in New Malaysia, days after political groups claimed the book's cover insulted the national coat of arms

In a federal gazette published on Wednesday, 1 July, Home Minister Hamzah Zainuddin exercised his powers conferred by subsection 7(1) of the Printing Presses and Publications Act 1984 to ban the book.

The gazette sighted by SAYS stated that the ban was issued under the Printing Presses and Publications (Control of Undesirable Publications) Order 2020 and it prohibits the printing, importation, production, reproduction, publishing, sale, issue, circulation, distribution, or possession of the book.

"Absolutely prohibited throughout Malaysia"

As per the order, the book is likely to be: prejudicial to public order, to security, to the national interest, alarm public opinion, and is contrary to any law.
