Moving Car Falls 20FT From Penang Condo Parking Lot And Crushes Woman To Death
The car fell off the edge of the elevated parking lot and dragged the victim 6m into an alley below.
A woman was killed in a freak accident where a car fell about 6m to the ground from a condominium on a hill slope
According to New Straits Times, the incident took place at 11.45am today, 3 December.
The deceased has been identified as 49-year-old Kim Hui Ping, a resident of the condo at Island Park, Penang.
The victim was walking in the condominium car park when she was suddenly rammed and knocked into a concrete wall.
The car then fell off the edge of the elevated parking lot and dragged her 20ft into an alley below.
Timur Laut district police chief ACP Soffian Santong told Berita Harian that the driver of the Toyota Vios is an elderly woman in her 70s. She accidentally rammed into Kim Hui Ping who was passing in front of her car.
"The driver pressed on the gas pedal before crashing into Hui Ping and ramming into the parking barrier wall," he said.
"The impact caused the vehicle to fall from 6m high and crush the victim as well as another car."
Meanwhile, Jalan Perak Fire and Rescue Department operation officer Yusri Zakaria told New Straits Times that when authorities arrived at the scene, they found the car overturned.
He explained, "The driver was still strapped to her seat. We took her out and gave her first aid treatment. We found the deceased crushed under the front part of the car. It took us about 10 minutes to remove her."
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene and her body was taken to the Penang Island Hospital for an autopsy
News Straits Times reported that the driver sustained chest injuries as a result of the accident.
The case is currently being investigated according to Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
