M'sian Family In SG Appeals For Help After Elderly Dad Suffers Stroke While Driving
The car accident led to their mother's death, while their father was hospitalised for emergency treatment.
Tragedy struck a Malaysian family when an elderly couple met with a car accident while on their way to visit their children in Singapore
According to the eldest son, Nizam Aziz, his father, Aziz Sharif, and his mother, Zaleha Maksum, were on their usual weekly drive from Johor to Singapore to visit him and his siblings when the incident happened.
"It was a trip my parents made every week with joy and anticipation, eager to spend time with their children and grandchildren," he shared on crowdfunding platform, GIVE.Asia.
Unfortunately, on 1 June, Nizam said his elderly father suffered a major stroke while he was driving, causing the car to skid off the road and crash into a covered walkway in Yishun.
His 74-year-old mother, who was in the front passenger seat, died at the scene, while his 76-year-old father was sent unconscious to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital for emergency treatment.
The son said his father had sustained severe injuries such as broken ribs and internal bleeding, as well as brain injuries caused by the stroke, and required breathing support in the intensive care unit (ICU).
Now, the family is appealing to the public for help to raise funds for their father's medical treatment
Nizam shared that his siblings are struggling to make sure their father's medical needs are met while managing the rapidly mounting costs.
"As foreigners in Singapore, my family is facing exorbitant medical expenses. The cost of my father's ICU stay, ongoing treatments, and the long-term care he will need has placed an immense financial burden on us.
"With my father also now unable to work, and facing these overwhelming medical bills, our financial resources are rapidly depleting," he humbly shared.
The son hopes that, through crowdfunding, the public could help alleviate some financial stress on the family, especially until their father is stable enough to be transferred back to Malaysia
"Your generous contributions can make a significant difference. Every donation, no matter how small, will go directly towards covering my father's medical bills and provide some relief to our grieving family.
"The loss of our mother has been devastating, and the added burden of these expenses is making it difficult for us to cope," he said.
A family member additionally told SAYS that Nizam's late mother was a teacher who taught Braille classes to blind students at Princess Elizabeth special education school in Johor Bahru, while his father is a retired police officer.
The family aims to transfer their father to Sultanah Aminah Hospital in Johor Bahru once his condition has stabilised.
