Today, 6 May, former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak was fined for flouting the COVID-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs) at Restoran Nasi Ayam Hainan Chee Meng in Bukit Bintang on 19 March
Najib was given a RM3,000 compound for two offences, each amounting to RM1,500.
On the day of the incident, he did not scan the MySejahtera QR code using his mobile nor record his details, and he failed to check his body temperature before entering the premise.
The restaurant manager, however, was fined RM10,000
According to Dang Wangi district police chief ACP Mohamad Zainal Abdullah, all those who were involved will be compounded soon
On the day of the incident, the former prime minister was seen being ushered into the outlet without performing any of the required SOPs
Najib owned up to not following the SOPs amidst widespread public outrage.
He took to his Facebook page to admit that he breached COVID-19 SOPs during his visit to the restaurant and urged the authorities to issue him with a fine.
According to him, he was taken into the shop immediately as arrangements were made.
"I admit my mistake this time in not checking in myself although my officers did," the former prime minister wrote in his post, adding that his action was an "unintentional" mistake.
"Usually I'd comply with all SOPs that have been implemented in all my activities and movements. I urge the authorities to issue a summons for my mistake, which was unintentional."
