Najib Wants To Know What Malaysians Want From Budget 2016

In his enthusiasm on realizing his promises for reform, PM Najib Razak is continuing with his initiative of collecting suggestions prior to the tabling of Budget 2016.

In a post on his official Facebook page, Najib also stressed that suggestions and ideas from the rakyat will be the basis for Budget 2016, that is set to be tabled on 23 October.

The people can include their ideas at the #Bajet2016 micro site.

The interactive site that allow users to like and dislike ideas posted by other people comes with tabs for all categories to be included in Budget 2016.

With a substantial amount of users adding their ideas to the site, certain categories have garnered more attention from the people

The education category has so far managed to get the most amount of attention, with many including their suggestions and ideas pertaining to the current education system.

Suggestions included, were mainly issues affecting students in tertiary levels, and one of the most popular suggestion was to continue with the government-sponsored scholarship program, MyBrain15 which was started to increase the number Malaysians with masters's degree and PhD.

The all-time favourite issue, Perbadanan Tabung Pendidikan Tinggi Nasional (PTPTN) loan was also brought up.

Most people requested for tuition fee waivers, removal of interest rates for PTPTN loans and increasing the amount of loan given for respective courses

Current skyrocketing price of houses in Malaysia resulted in concerned citizens explaining the current reality of buying a house in the country

People were mostly lamenting on the increasing costs of houses in Malaysia, urging the government to decrease the price of homes, provide more housing loans and lowering down payment rates for houses.

With a number of ongoing mega projects to upgrade the transportation system in Malaysia, city dwellers have also suggested some changes that can improve the system

Some of the suggestions under the Transport and Infrastructure tab were for the government to provide free parking for Keretapi Tanah Melayu (KTM) and (Light Rail Transit) LRT train users and reducing the fares for both the train lines.

Despite the heavy input of ideas in the Budget 2016 suggestions website, a number of people have still remained skeptical about the idea

Following Najib's Facebook post urging Malaysians to contribute their ideas for the tabling of Budget 2016, netizens have responded with an assortment of negative comments against his initiative.
