"Only A Few Died" – Netizens Slam Muhyiddin For Downplaying Number Of COVID-19 Deaths
"Everyone here is safe from the COVID-19 infection, only a few died as a result of the virus," said the former primer minister.
A video of Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin campaigning for the 15th General Election (GE15) recently went viral after he claimed that only a few Malaysians died during the COVID-19 pandemic
In the one-minute video, the former prime minister stated that the deadly virus had presented the country with an unprecedented challenge that had never occurred in Malaysia's history.
The Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman added that Malaysia was on the verge of becoming endemic as a result of how he led the country and Malaysians' lives were saved because of PN's quick response in handling the crisis.
"In your body, there is a contribution from PN that handled your money to save your lives," he said.
"Everyone here is safe from the COVID-19 infection, only a few died as a result of the virus."
The video sparked outrage among netizens who were dissatisfied with how he downplayed the number of COVID-19 deaths
"Dear Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yasin, my sister, mother, and brother were among the few deaths you mentioned. Sabah's state election (PRN) was the reason why COVID-19 cases spiked. I accept what happened, but I will never forget this until the day I die," said one user.
Another user said that she was unable to sleep after hearing Muhyiddin's statement.
"I cannot imagine how the families of those who died feel when he said that," she said.
Many more netizens also shared about the family members they had lost to COVID-19.
