Wrong place, at the wrong time?

People dumping garbage on cars is not unheard of in China, but it certainly is in Malaysia

Two months ago, a driver who illegally parked his car in front of a trash collection station in Zhengzhou, China came back a few hours later to find that about 10 tonnes of filth were thrown around his vehicle.

It was a nasty surprise.

Closer to home, a driver suffered the same fate when he decided to park his car along the road in Taman Connaught, Cheras, Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday, 11 January. There was a pasar malam (night market) going on that night.

When the photos of the incident began circulating on social media, netizens condemned the driver involved for being obnoxious

They said that the driver "deserved" the treatment from the pubilc for being a nuisance at the pasar malam.

It is said that the car was occupying a spot where a stall would be set up by a trader, thus causing disruption and affecting the trader's business.

Some even commented that the driver should be "grateful" the car was not damaged further, as "it could have been worse".

However, after some time, more people began to opine that it could have been an honest mistake

They said that the driver should be given the benefit of the doubt as they pointed out that the car was with a Johor registration number plate, suggesting that perhaps the driver could have been new to the area and unaware about the **pasar malam** that is usually held every Wednesday in Taman Connaught.

With that said, people also pointed out that the local council has put up more clear signages to inform the public about the operating days and times of the pasar malam.

On the other hand, there are people who thought that the bottom line is to stay "civilised" regardless of what really happened

This group of people said that the act of vandalising the car with garbage was uncalled for, even if the driver had intentionally parked his or her car there, knowing that there will be a pasar malam going on that night.

"Two wrongs don't make a right," a Facebook user said.
