The Penang International Airport was flooded again after a heavy rain in the afternoon. Many were stranded are unable to get to their vehicles.

Water was 5cm deep at the arrival hall
The Penang International Airport in Bayan Lepas was flooded again yesterday, barely two months after one of its lounges suffered a similar fate.

Passengers were seen sitting with their legs crossed on chairs as the water was 5cm deep at the arrival hall.

The arrival hall, which is located on the lower level of the airport building, was flooded at about 3.30pm yesterday after water started flowing in from the taxi lanes outside.

Unusually heavy rain resulted in flood
The 3pm downpour resulted in vehicles getting stuck in the driveway due to rising water levels.
Senior airport manager Mohd Ariff Jaafar said rainfall was recorded at about 58.2mm of rainfall during a 20-minute heavy downpour. The usual rainfall volume is between 10mm and 15mm.

Not the first time Penang International Airport was flooded
The “unusually bad weather” during the past month has aggravated the situation, MAHB said, noting that rainfall intensity in Penang has increased to as much as 43mm from the usual 10mm to 15mm.
