The Penang International Airport in Bayan Lepas was flooded again yesterday, barely two months after one of its lounges suffered a similar fate.

A flash-flood caused a stretch of road, directly in front of the arrival hall, to be inundated with ankle-deep water following a sudden but short burst of rainfall.

The arrival hall, which is located on the lower level of the airport building, was flooded at about 3.30pm yesterday after water started flowing in from the taxi lanes outside.

Unusually heavy rain resulted in flood

The 3pm downpour resulted in vehicles getting stuck in the driveway due to rising water levels.

Senior airport manager Mohd Ariff Jaafar said rainfall was recorded at about 58.2mm of rainfall during a 20-minute heavy downpour. The usual rainfall volume is between 10mm and 15mm.

Not the first time Penang International Airport was flooded
