This Man Sitting On An Ice Slab Isn't Doing What You Think He Is
The actual story behind this 'chilling' photo, however, happened 5,580 km from KL.
Social media users on Facebook and WhatsApp have been sharing a photo of an anonymous man sitting on an ice slab on his bare butt:
With the typhoid outbreak confirmed in KL, we can understand why this photo would send chills down your spine - "OMG, is this how they 'warm' up the ice before they serve it to me in a cup?"
However, you shouldn't worry. This man is 5,580 km away from Malaysia, in New Delhi where it can be REALLY hot.
If this was taken in May 2015, when temperatures rose to 45.5°C (YEAH, SUPER HOT), then this guy was probably just 'chilling' on some ice.
During summers, Delhi spits fire and people do all sorts of things to keep themselves cool. This man here was probably doing the same, or maybe he was just 'butthurt' and needed to soothe an itch or wound at his posterior.
Nevertheless, with 32 confirmed cases of typhoid fever reported in KL so far, we need to be cautious and avoid food with poor hygiene, e.g. roadside stalls, etc.
Back home in KL, illegal workers are not subjected to compulsory anti-typhoid injections and lack of cleanliness where they live could be a health threat to locals
"This is because the employers are not concerned about their health, and want to reduce costs... the policies and regulations are already there, there just has to be more enforcement so that the employers are more responsible about the living quarters for their workers," said Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam.
themalaysianinsider.com"The problem may lie with illegal workers who are not medically screened at all and they may be carriers of the disease," Deputy Health Minister Hilmi Yahya said.
