PM Lee Hsien Loong Fainted On Live Television While Delivering National Day Rally Speech
He later returned to the stage to a standing ovation to resume his speech.
Singapore PM Lee Hsien Loong fainted during a live broadcast as he was delivering a speech at the National Day Rally, Sunday night
PM Lee, who was talking about race and religion when the unfortunate incident occurred, can be seen - in a small clip that has since gone viral - pausing his speech as he began to shake and his body began to sway slightly to the right before collapsing.
A loud thud can be heard from the clip as the camera cut to a gasping audience.
While people started speculating, a statement from PM Lee's office, through his official Facebook page, read that he had "taken ill".
"PM Lee was feeling unsteady because of prolonged standing, heat and dehydration. His heart is fine and he did not have a stroke."
A tense 30 minutes passed before DPM Teo Chee Hean made an announcement over the PA system, telling the guests that Mr Lee was resting, and would be back to greet them and continue his speech, which prompted an eruption of applause.
