Govt To Give Out RM100 Book Vouchers For Year 4 To Tertiary Students

The government will distribute RM100 book vouchers to students from Year 4 up to tertiary education, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim

According to Berita Harian, the prime minister made the announcement at the 2024 Kuala Lumpur International Book Fair (PBAKL) today, 30 May.

"This is for the children, whether they are in national schools, Arabic schools, Chinese or Tamil national schools, and universities, we will be giving [them] RM100 vouchers," he was quoted as saying.

"We will start from Year 4 students this year, to reduce the financial burden on the government.

"The vouchers will also be given to students in secondary schools, universities, colleges, teachers training institutes, and so on," he said.

He added the mechanism to claim the vouchers will be announced at 2pm tomorrow, 31 May.

Anwar also indicated that the vouchers will have specific usage conditions

FMT quoted him as saying that the vouchers will be accompanied by a list of recommended books to encourage students to redeem them for quality books.

"Classic novels by renowned author... I want our children to understand artificial intelligence. We will recommend a list of books," he said.
