How often have we heard advice to park by the road for a short nap if we feel sleepy during a drive? That is the responsible thing to do, right? Not in the case of this tired policeman.

PETALING JAYA: A 48-year-old serious crimes officer was robbed of his gun with 15 bullets after he fell asleep in his car in Section 7, Shah Alam early Monday.

The serious crimes officer was heading home after attending his father’s funeral in Klang at about 1.45am yesterday and had stopped his car by the side of the road near a housing area to take a nap.

He had wound down the car window halfway, reclined his seat and closed his eyes for some rest due to tiredness.

He woke up to see the robber pulling off his gun from his holster

After a while, he felt tugging at his thigh and woke up to find a man pulling off his Walter semi-automatic gun from the holder. The man escaped in a red Honda motorcycle before the officer could do anything.

"The officer was startled when he felt someone snatched at his gun, causing the rope connecting the handgun to his clothes to snap. "The officer gave chase but the robber managed to escape," the source said.

He also lost his passport, smartphone and RM600

It is believed that the officer also lost his passport, smartphone and RM600 in cash. He lodged a police report at the Shah Alam police station.

The case is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code and Section 35 of the Arms Act 1960. Sources said the the victim was also required to undergo blood and urine tests.
