Proud Malaysians Are All Praise For Bomba's Daring Rescue Of A Suicidal 23-Year-Old
Well done, Bomba Malaysia!
Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) personnel staged a daring rescue lasting for over 2 hours for a man threatening to jump from an 8th-storey window ledge in Puchong, Selangor, on 21 August
The man, aged 23, had climbed out from his 11th-floor bedroom in Kenanga Apartments at about 9 am and then climbed down to the 8th-floor from outside, according to the Star Online. Puchong Bomba station chief Mohd Hisam said the man then tried to climb back up to his window but was too tired. So he sat on the ledge by an air-conditioning unit as residents called authorities for help.
“We arrived at about 9.42am and tried to coax him to come back from the ledge, but he did not cooperate. He didn’t ask for anything or say anything, although he discussed his family with us,” said Mohd Hisam. Mohd Hisam added that the man shouted at the officers and threatened to jump every time they inched towards him at about 11am.
“We just did what we could to calm him down, we gave him cigarettes, talked to him and just moved closer and closer. Then when we were close enough, one of us grabbed him and we pulled him in through the window,” he said.
The man tried to resist and it took five people to restrain him, Mohd Hisam added. The man was sent to Serdang Hospital for evaluation. “Interviews with his friends and family suggest that the man was going through relationship problems and difficulties at work,” Mohd Hisam said.
