Publisher Of World-Famous 'Lao Fu Zi' Comics Has Passed Away At 98

The comics that we used to read while getting our hair cut!

The man who made famous one of the most popular comic series of all time - Old Master Q, also fondly known as Lao Fu Zi - has passed away at the age of 98

According to Sin Chew Daily, the Hong Kong comic publisher, Wu Zhong Xing, passed away on Wednesday, 8 April.

Known as a giant in the Hong Kong publishing industry, Wu founded the Ng Hing Ke Book And Newspaper Agency that has been publishing and distributing for more than half a century.

According to the Chinese daily, Wu had stumbled upon the comic in a newspaper and found it very entertaining before deciding to contact its creator, Alfonso Wong Kar Hei.

The fateful meeting saw both of them working together for over 40 years, with Wu taking the series to new heights during its prime, reported The Star.

Wu first published the well-loved comic in 1964, and in that time since, we have seen the book in every other salon in Malaysia, and maybe even the rest of Asia.

Netizens far and wide have flooded the Internet to share their condolences and thanked Wu for releasing the comic to the world

"Rest in peace, and thank you very much! In memory of the Hong Kong publishing giant, Mr Wu Zhong Xing who passed away at 98," said a Twiiter user.

This user said, "Thank you, Lao Fu Zi. I always read these Master Q comics while I was waiting my turn at the salon in Sekinchan."

"Lao Fu Zi has definitely got to be a shared memory by everyone in my generation," said another netizen.

While this user proved that language is never a barrier when you're a comic fan.

"I used to always read his comics in Bahasa Malaysia. But it was hard to find except in its original language. If I found those, I'll just look at the pictures. Thank you, Lao Fu Zi."
