S'porean Woman Eats Cannabis After Mistaking It For Kangkung While Vacationing In Thailand
She ate the kangkung noodle soup with her husband, mother-in-law, and two children.
A Singaporean woman went on vacation in Thailand with her husband, mother-in-law, and two children and enjoyed a warm bowl of noodle soup at a hotel in Chiang Rai
After feeling dazed and hypnotised by the food she ate, the woman took her family again to the same restaurant for breakfast the next day.
She saw a picture of the noodle soup on the menu as she sat at the restaurant's table and realised that the delicious and unique kangkung in the dish she had ordered for her family was actually marijuana leaves, reported The Straits Times.
According to the woman, the cannabis was boiled in the soup like any other vegetable, and she had misidentified it as kangkung.
It is a crime for Singaporeans to consume cannabis abroad
In July 2022, Singapore's Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) warned the public not to take cannabis or other illegal substances while travelling abroad, reported The Straits Times.
"(Under) the Misuse of Drugs Act, any Singapore citizen or permanent resident found to have consumed controlled drugs outside Singapore will also be liable for the drug consumption offence," CNB told The Straits Times.
They added that Singaporeans convicted of drug consumption may face up to ten years in prison and a SGD20,000 (RM64,195) fine.
