Senior Policemen To Be Fired In An Effort To "Cleanse" Police Force Of Corruption

Three "graft-ridden" police departments are also reportedly set to shut down.

As part of the Pakatan Harapan government's efforts to "cleanse" Malaysia's police force, several senior policemen are expected to be removed in July

When asked who among the chiefs will be the first to be replaced, a source told The Straits Times, "No. 1", referring to Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun.

Fuzi was appointed nine months ago by former Prime Minister Najib Razak.

Though the reason for his replacement was not revealed, two potential successors to Fuzi were named: his deputy Noor Rashid Ibrahim and former head of Commercial Crime Investigation Department Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani.

Other higher-ranking department chiefs will also reportedly be let go due to them "not being clean"

"Some of them have excessive wealth... It doesn't make sense how some of them can have so many luxury cars, on top of living in a bungalow," the source was quoted as saying.

The source added that, "Some also misused their power - one of them had abused his power when he headed a department by using the service of outriders. He was not entitled to (at the time)."

Malaysia's Special Task Force On Organised Crime (STAFOC)

According to the source, the Special Task Force for Anti-Vice, Gaming and Gangsterism (Stagg), Special Task Force on Organised Crime (Stafoc), and Special Tactical Intelligence Narcotics Group (STING) are to be scrapped due to their suspected involvement in corruption.

"Too many of those who were entrusted to fight the underworld are also the ones who protect them," another source told The Straits Times.
