In what seems to be a shocking case of child abuse, a woman was caught on CCTV slamming a child to the ground repeatedly in front of other children. The CCTV footage was posted on YouTube in two parts. The incident is believed to have happened at a Toa Payoh childcare centre, Singapore.
Parents help teacher to pay for a lawyer to defend herself
To help the childcare teacher who allegedly abused a three-year-old boy, parents and peers have come together to contribute money to pay for a lawyer.

According to an article in The New Paper, the Education Services Union will facilitate this should she accept the help: “We will look for ways to work with her and how best to help in the situation."

Days after the news broke, parents with children at the childcare centre came forward to defend her and had only praise for her. A mother whose daughter was under this teacher several years ago, said: “When my daughter joined the centre, she cried for two months straight, but she was very patient."

"CCTVs are useful, but it cannot replace trust between teachers and parents," he said. He noted that while technology can be used wherever possible, technology cannot replace the relationship between parents and teachers.
The childcare centre involved in the alleged child abuse case has had its licence tenure cut from 24 months to six months.
Parents may have overreacted
"I do not rule out this possibility of the said video. But listen carefully, I strongly felt that they are over-reacting with all the sound and words. I am not interested in the ruling parties because Greed has overwhelmed them."

8 July: Teacher involved in the child abuse case at a childcare centre has been arrested
A 51-year-old teacher was arrested on Sunday in connection to an alleged child abuse case that took place at the NTUC My First Skool childcare centre in Toa Payoh on Friday.
The three-year-old boy's father said his son, who can be hyperactive, suffered a hairline fracture on his left shin. NTUC First Campus, which operates My First Skool, said this was due to mishandling by the teacher. The teacher has since been suspended.
CCTV footage showing a woman dragging a boy across the floor and pushing him down with force has gone viral online. The woman is believed to be the child's teacher. His parents were initially told by the childcare centre that he had a fall, but demanded to see the CCTV footage.

The incident is believed to have happened at a Toa Payoh childcare centre. In the video, a child is seen running up to a woman in a classroom, who grabs him by the arms. She seems to be lecturing the child.
After awhile, she drags the child to the back of the classroom and slams him onto the ground. She does it at least twice before she pins the child to the ground and speaks to him again. She can also be seen slapping the boy.

In a second video of the same incident, the child can be seen struggling to his feet. He tries to stand up while leaning on a table for support, but is unable to do so.

The Ministry of Social and Family Development is investigating an alleged abuse case at the NTUC My First Skool childcare centre in Toa Payoh.
Minister for Social and Family Development Chan Chun Sing said Sunday his ministry is investigating an incident at a local childcare centre, after a video on Youtube appeared showing a woman handling a boy roughly.

A spokesman for the school, My First Skool, at Block 192 Toa Payoh Lorong 4, said that they are co-operating with the police over the alleged incident. Under the Child Care Centre's Regulations, corporal punishment is not allowed in childcare centres.

"When I demanded to know what happened, the teacher acted like she knew nothing. How could she do that? How could she act as if it wasn't her fault?" says the boy's mother.
"I started screaming," the 30-year old, who works in the service industry, was quoted by TNP as saying. "When I demanded to know what happened, that teacher was there, and she acted like she didn't know what happened. How could she do that? How could she act as if it wasn't her fault?"
