Singer-actress Dr Soo Wincci has become the first Miss World Malaysia to be appointed to an academic position, as recognised by the Malaysia Book of Records

Soo, who is Miss World Malaysia 2008 and holder of six different academic degrees of various levels and fields, is the latest associate professor at the Faculty of Music of Universiti Teknologi Mara's (UiTM) College of Creative Arts.

The 36-year-old shared the news in a series of Instagram posts last Friday, 1 April, which includes a certificate from the Malaysia Book of Records that acknowledges her as the first Miss World Malaysia to be an associate professor.

The certificate notes that she will be lecturing on "Music Business".

"Finally, I stepped into the world of professors. I am now a lecturer teaching students of UiTM Shah Alam in the subject of music production and business," she said

"I will teach 70 to 80 students, who are all in the B40 group," the beauty pageant winner told Berita Harian.

Soo said that her new responsibility will not interfere with her other academic and creative pursuits.

"I will only fly to Valencia, Spain during the semester break or after the exam. I will teach virtually if I am in another country," said the PhD holder in Artistic Production from the University of Polytechnic Valencia.

"I teach almost every day at UiTM, except Saturday and Sunday. So, I can focus on my interests as an artist and in production work."

Other than being an academic in the field of music, Soo is also a PhD holder in Business from Open University Malaysia

In 2020, she started pursuing another doctorate degree in Philosophy in Spain, reported The Star.

Her other academic achievements include:
- Law Degree from the University of Reading
- Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Sunshine Coast
- Master's Degree in Music Technology from Berklee College of Music (Valencia campus)
- Post-Master's Fellowship in Live Music from Berklee College of Music (Valencia campus)

Soo was also recognised as the most number of academic degrees obtained by a recording artiste and beauty queen by the Malaysia Book of Records in 2019.

Her aim is to obtain eight doctorate degrees

"Now, there are only two," she told Berita Harian, adding, "My third PhD is likely to be majoring in international law. It's just that I don't know which university to pursue the course at."

Soo returned to Malaysia in March this year before flying to Nepal for social responsibility work, where she was offered to be a lecturer on chemical engineering subjects

She has a foundation in it, but she rejected the offer as she wanted to pursue in fields related to law and arts.

The singer behind Cut Away — produced and composed in four languages: English, Malay, Chinese, and Spanish — also said that it is her 11th year fasting during Ramadan.

The humanitarian icon of Islamic Relief Malaysia (IRM) related she misses fasting in Malaysia and that she did not miss her opportunity to fast while in Spain three years ago.
