A single mother's grilled chicken rice stall in Sungai Petani, Kedah went viral recently for its affordable pricing

Surayani Mohd Nasir sells a single serving of chicken rice for only RM1.

According to New Straits Times (NST), the 39-year-old explained that the dish is reasonably priced as she understands the troubles of low-income earners like herself and wishes to alleviate their troubles in her own way.

"As a single mother, I understand the predicament that low-income earners face to support their families."

Surayani needs about 100kg of rice and 100 chickens daily to meet the growing demands of her customers.

The grilled chicken rice recipe she uses belongs to her grandfather, whom she said has been selling the dish at the night markets in Sungai Petani for more than 20 years now.

Surayani stressed that she does not compromise on the quality and cleanliness, in terms of preparing the chicken rice, despite its low price

Surayani has been in business for two weeks now and said that she's both surprised and grateful for the great reception she's receiving from customers who are mostly locals and travellers up north.

She also made it a point to mention that she's not too worried about making lesser profit so long she has enough to raise her children.

The stall is open daily from 10am until 5pm.
