A Year Five student from a school in Batu Berendam, Melaka, was rushed to hospital after reportedly falling from part of the school building on Wednesday, 6 May

According to Sinar Harian, the 11-year-old boy is believed to have fallen while trying to retrieve a pair of shoes from the ground-floor corridor roof.

A source said the student had allegedly climbed up to get the shoes after they were thrown onto the roof, but slipped and fell in the process.

The incident is believed to have happened during rainy weather, which left the roof wet and slippery.

In an update today, 8 May, Melaka Tengah district police chief ACP Christopher Patit said initial investigations found that the boy had thrown another student's shoes onto the roof before climbing up himself to retrieve them

"The roof collapsed as the boy attempted to climb back up to the first floor of the school building. He fell and injured his right leg," he said, as quoted by the New Straits Times.

The student was given first aid at the school before being taken to Melaka Hospital. He was later transferred to Putra Specialist Hospital for further treatment.

Christopher said the boy is in stable condition and suffered a minor fracture to his right ankle.

He added that investigations by the criminal investigation department, forensic team, and witness statements confirmed there was no element of bullying involved

The boy also reportedly told authorities that he had not been bullied.

Earlier, the incident had reportedly gone viral on WhatsApp, though few details were known apart from claims that a Year Five student had fallen from a school building.
