A 50-year-old school teacher and a labourer have been sentenced to eight years in prison by the Kuala Terengganu Sessions Court for sex trafficking
The court convicted Mohd Hasfyanizam Mansor, 50, and Mohamad Fazley Jaafar, 31, who worked as a teacher and a labourer, respectively.
According to Bernama, the duo were found guilty of exploiting, trafficking, and sexually abusing a 29-year-old local woman.
The offence took place at 2.35am on 11 March 2024 in a condominium unit along Jalan Sultan Omar
According to the charges, Mohd Hasfyanizam and Mohamad Fazley targeted the woman, exploiting her vulnerable circumstances for sexual purposes.
The judge, Mohd Zul Zakiqudin Zulkifli, ordered each accused to pay a fine of RM5,000 each or face an additional six months in prison in default.
The duo were convicted under Section 12 of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007
Defence lawyer Mohd Shahir Mat Jusoh requested a lenient sentence, arguing that the men were the primary breadwinners for their families.
However, Deputy Public Prosecutor Ahmad Hafizudin Manjur Ahmad argued that, as an educator, Mohd Hasfyanizam should have set a positive example for the public.
