The Day We Shared A Video Full Of Racist Remarks For The Right Reasons
A few Malaysians were put to the test when asked to say racist statements of people other races. Watch how they responded.
An article by the Malay Mail highlighted a video that's slowly getting viral in Malaysia
The video, the brainchild of advertising agency Naga DDB wanted to find out if Malaysians were truly racist
It all started with a question: Are Malaysians as racist as all the noise out there on social media seems to suggest? Advertising agency Naga DDB pitched the idea for a Merdeka Day advertisement, but the client went with another idea in the end.
themalaymailonline.comParticipants were called for a casting session, unaware of what's going to happen next
They started out by repeating sentences such as "I'm a Malaysian" which they did so confidently.
However, the interviewer asked them to repeat "I love Malaysians" before adding the controversial statement "Kecuali kaum Cina kerana semua pendatang"(except the Chinese because they are immigrants)
The question was interchanged, this time stating that "Melayu bodoh" (Malays are stupid)
The stereotype that all Indians smell too was thrown at them and still, Malaysians both young and old refused to say it
The interviewer then threatened by saying they would not get the job because of the refusal to cooperate. The participants didn't comply.
The crew baited them with RM5,000 and RM10,000 cash just to say it. They wouldn't accept.
At the end of the video, the production crew let the cat out of the bag that it was a social experiment to see if Malaysians would stand up for each other
On the other hand, some commentators were skeptical of the video, as everyday experiences prove otherwise
